Overview

Multicultural competence in counseling refers to the ability of counselors to gather positive results in cross-cultural encounters between counselors and counselees. In this context, "multicultural" can be defined as differences between counselees and counselors in terms of ethnicity, religion, gender, social status, disability, and other factors. Becoming a well-rounded multicultural counselor means recognizing that each client needs their specific therapeutic approach. Multicultural competence is not only a technique for counselors in their counseling practice, Multicultural counseling is a point of view and understanding that can be adapted by counselors into their counseling practice.
